Risk-Informed Decision-Making

This focus area forms the foundation of our work. We develop and apply probabilistic and risk-informed methods to support engineering decision-making under uncertainty. Our research emphasizes structured decision-support approaches that help engineers quantify uncertainty, evaluate tradeoffs, and make defensible decisions in complex, high-consequence systems.
Infrastructure Resilience

This focus area examines engineering decision-making for infrastructure systems exposed to compounding and cascading hazards, with emphasis on high-consequence systems where decisions directly affect safety, performance, and societal outcomes.
Engineering Education

This focus area translates research insights into education and practice by designing and evaluating instructional approaches that prepare future engineers to make sound decisions and connect classroom learning with real-world engineering challenges. Our work bridges academic research, workforce preparation, and industry needs to strengthen engineering decision-making across career stages.
